Fortunately, there are also many people who try to support these shelters with a good heart through donations and/or volunteer work.

In practice, it often works out that people prefer not to donate money but do so through products. Think of dog or cat food, cleaning products, small tools for maintenance/repair of accommodations, toys, etc.

Despite the fact that we support all these generous initiatives, we (as a food supplier but also as family) have experienced that there is often an imbalance or dis-balance among the dogs. How does this happen?

Everyone can donate, the better off, but also the less fortunate. The challenge lies in this; People contribute what they can afford financially. In practice, this translates into shelters that receive a wide variety of food and logically also feed it.

The disadvantage of a constantly changing diet is that it leads to health problems in the dogs. An imbalance arises from which new problems arise. See it as a chain reaction that takes place. Certainly an environment in which many animals are relatively close together, without too much space or privileges.

For the shelter, this means that re-homing dogs will be faster and easier. Why? The animals are in good condition and the overall atmosphere within the shelter will improve significantly. On the other hand, potential adopters are more likely to adopt a dog from the shelter in question. Unfortunately, a dog shelter is not always the most positive place, but by doing this will definitely contribute to an overall improvement of the shelter.

The dog shelter can approach potential donors in a professional manner, ask them for donations, explain and show how these are spent and substantiate the many (health) and other advantages of putting all shelter dogs on a stable food policy.
